News & calls for volunteers

1. More bills presented in the state legislature. HB1013 prevents COVID-19 testing, masking & vax mandates. It’s a good bill, but it doesn’t have the free speech protection from last year’s HB687 which was not restricted to COVID-19. I heard a rumor that there will be a bill to mirror last year’s HB687.

The DEI bill looks stronger than we expected.

2. State legislature watch team. So far I have 11 people signed up with “state” as their primary focus area. I’d like someone to step up to lead the team and start going through the legislative proposals… maybe write up a summary of the good & bad bills or what specific areas we need to push on to make improvements.

3. Web support team. I’m trying to piggy back on an existing activist group to use their legal status, web hosting, etc. Once that’s secured, I’ll need some volunteers who can help with web development to build on their existing site and help get information out. Let me know if you have skills you’re willing to share.

4. School groomers. We just shamed our school board on the grooming books in the elementary school libraries. I encourage you all to check your school districts and compile a similar list to bring up at your next school board meeting. You can find a list of books in our article.

5. Border Security. Governor DeSantis held a press conference today on border security. Short version on Twitter:

6. No State Funding for Abortion. The State Attorney General is pushing court to vacate an injunction against Florida Law prohibiting state funds from going to abortion clinics. Here’s the press release:

7. Religious Freedom. The Florida chapter of Moms for America is concerned that SB202 is actually removing some religious freedom provisions for private schools (see p. 38, 2(r))… it moves all curriculum directly under the Commissioner of Education with no religious exemptions (effectively negating several FL statutes: 402.305, 402.3055, 1005.06). They have set up a petition (link below) and are thinking about a rally for pro school choice and religious freedom on March 7.

8. Dr. Littell. If you heard Daniel’s show today, you heard the interview with Dr. John Littell. Here’s a quick summary of the event by Chris Nelson (@ReOpenChris).

I don’t know Chris, but I have met Dr. Littell a couple of times. He’s an amazing man and is exactly how you heard him on Daniel’s show. It’s not an act. That’s who he is. We actually drove over an hour for my wife to see him because we didn’t trust the crazies infected by UF Health here in commie-ville.

9. Local Fun. As I type this, the Joint Legislative Audit Committee is grilling the Gainesville City Commission because of their inept control of the city-owned utility which is on the verge of bankruptcy. They’re saying the city needs a plan to cut its budget by 25% and stop milking the utility to fund the city. The Democrat co-chair of the committee actually threatened to write a letter to DeSantis to remove the city commissioners… it feels like I’m dreaming. We’ll have a report about this out later.
