School Choice
It’s time to admit that the approach of giving government school a monopoly over federally funded education has led to a marked decline in the quality of American public education. Almost all policy discussions about education revolve exclusively about funding. The problem is not funding as Andrew J. Coulson at the Cato Institute clearly illustrated in 2013:
Despite the growing cost, public school curricula have been impoverished, replacing tried and true lessons on reading, writing, and arithmetic with new age theories that are more likely to push political indoctrination than improve student performance.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Public funding of education does not require that instruction must be delivered by means of government-operated schools. The alternative is to have public funds follow each student, allowing the student and the parents to choose the educational environment that is best for them.

Confronting Your School Board
School board members make important decisions that impact their community in many significant ways.
“Without freedom of thought, there can be no such thing as wisdom; and no such thing as public liberty, without freedom of speech; which is the right of every man, as fas as by it, he does not hurt or control the right of another: And this is the only check it ought to suffer, and the only bounds it ought to know.”
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, SILENCE DOGOOD LETTERS, NO.8, JULY 9, 1772
